The Nurturing Nature of Rattlesnakes
The Nurturing Nature of Rattlesnakes
Ready to explore the surprising world of rattlesnake families? Through engaging vignettes and videos, you’ll experience a day in the life of these remarkable reptiles and learn how they care for and protect their young. We’ll also discuss lesser-known aspects of rattlesnake behavior, such as drinking and babysitting.
Join us on a fascinating journey that challenges common misconceptions and fosters a deeper understanding of our scaley neighbors.
You have snake questions — ASP has answers.
What do I do if I encounter a rattlesnake while hiking? What about snakes in my yard?
Melissa and Jeff from Advocates for Snake Preservation will be available before and after the presentation to answer these and other snakey questions. Have a photo of a snake you’d like identified? Bring it along!
Advocates for Snake Preservation (ASP) is a Silver City charity that changes how people view and treat snakes. We make snakes more familiar and less scary by busting myths, illustrating lesser-known behaviors like parental care, and sharing stories of individual snakes to show what they’re really like. We also provide solutions to human-snake conflicts that sometimes end badly for people and often prove fatal for snakes.

50 mile, 100 mile & Half Marathon Distances
Trail races on Continental Divide and Gila National Forest trails starting just outside of Silver City, New Mexico. Check out the Gila 100 tab for all race information (Half Marathon, 50 miler, and 100 miler distances) for October 12 weekend.
The first annual Gila 100 will be in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the Gila wilderness, the oldest and second largest wilderness in the country. We hope with this race to draw runners who will feel at home in the community that honors and promotes the preservation and enjoyment of this pristine forest.
Starting a few miles east of Silver City in historic Ft. Bayard, the race will cross rugged yet runnable terrain from rolling hills of the high desert to ponderosa pine peaks reaching 9,000 ft on the Continental Divide Trail.

1st Annual Open Space Staff Retreat is almost here!Open Space Brewing will be closed from July 11-13. We will resume normal hours July 18th. Our annual week-off is inspired by the owners anniversary day or meeting day on the Continental Divide Trail on July 11, 2019. Even though we’re currently a small staff of two, we hope to offer this annual paid week off as an opportunity to connect with the outdoors and have some adventures! It can be a hard choice to close, yet taking the time to reflect on the journey and support adventure outside of work is very much part of the culture here at Open Space Brewing. Thank you for your relentless and loving support of your local brewery! Happy Trails!
